In recent years, you have probably noticed that online payments have become more secure. You are often asked to confirm your purchases with your phone or via a banking app.
This enhanced security comes from a European regulation called PSD2. It requires marketplaces such as Delcampe to make transactions more secure. Its aim is to better protect consumers and prevent online fraud.
Regulations that require enhanced security
To meet the requirements of this directive, our banking partner Mangopay is implementing enhanced identity verification for your account. This additional step is based on a mechanism called strong authentication, which we explain below.
This measure makes fraud attempts much more difficult and enhances the protection of your customers. Secure payments inspire confidence: your buyers feel reassured and are therefore more inclined to complete their purchases. This can result in increased sales and greater customer loyalty.
This article covers this new measure and its impact on Delcampe members.
- What does this enhanced security involve?
- Who is affected by this enhanced security?
- A banner is asking me to confirm my identity, is this normal?
- I have already completed my identity verification, but a banner is asking for my consent. Is this normal?
- How can I secure my account?
- Why do I need to grant rights to Delcampe for payments, and what do they consist of?
- How many times do I need to authenticate?
- The verification didn’t work, what should I do?
- Can I refuse this verification?
What does this enhanced security consist of?
Strong authentication, also known as SCA, is based on verifying your identity using two factors. For example: a password and a code sent by SMS.
Don't worry! This new security measure does not change your selling habits on Delcampe. It is only intended to protect your personal and banking data, and only applies to certain specific actions.
Who is affected by this enhanced security?
In these cases, our banking partner technically considers these accounts as profiles capable of carrying out selling activity, which explains why they are also subject to identity verification.
If you choose not to complete this verification, you may no longer be able to pay your sellers through the payment methods offered by Mangopay.
Practically speaking, if a seller does not accept PayPal, you will no longer be able to pay for your purchase.
⚠️Warning: we cannot tell you exactly when you will be asked to complete this verification. If you do not see a request at this time, this is perfectly normal. This is not urgent, and you will be invited to complete it when the time comes.
A banner is asking me to confirm my identity, is this normal?
Yes, this is completely normal.
This banner appears when our banking partner Mangopay asks you to increase the security of your account. This is a regulatory requirement intended to verify that you are indeed the account holder and to protect your payments.
Even though Delcampe already has some of your information, we cannot complete this verification on your behalf. It must be carried out directly via Mangopay, as it is a banking authentication that complies with European security standards (PSD2).
I have already completed my identity verification, but a banner is asking for my consent. Is this normal?
Yes, this is completely normal.
The “Give my consent” banner now appears for all accounts that have previously completed their identity verification with Mangopay.
This is an additional security measure required by our banking partner in order to meet legal obligations. This authorization is essential to ensure the proper functioning of your account and the security of your transactions.
You can find more information in the section “Why do I need to grant rights to Delcampe for payments, and what do they involve?” of this article.
How can I secure my account?
Since the implementation of this new security layer, you are required to verify your Mangopay account. A banner will appear in your Delcampe account inviting you to authenticate yourself.
Our banking partner offers two simple ways to do this.
-
By SMS (only available if you do not have a passkey)
This authentication requires a mobile phone. To avoid wasting time during authentication, make sure you have your phone ready before you begin.
The phone number you add will only be used to verify your account and will not be used for any other purpose.

Why do I need to grant rights to Delcampe for payments, and what do they involve?
This is an additional security step required by our banking partner in order to meet legal requirements. This authorization is essential to ensure the proper functioning of your account and the security of your transactions.
Delcampe needs your consent to perform the following actions:
-
Execute payments from your account, for example to transfer your balance to your bank account or to make a bank transfer payment to another seller.
-
Access your balance and your transaction history in order to manage your operations and ensure the compliance of the service.
How often do I have to authenticate myself?
To ensure the security of your account, identity verification should be required approximately every 6 months.
Don't worry, you won't have to repeat all the steps you've already taken! However, the system will ask you for the 6-digit PIN code you chose. So don't forget it, make sure you always remember it!
This process can also be triggered automatically if you change certain sensitive information in your account, such as your email address.
The authentication did not go through. What should I do?
If you took too long to enter the SMS code or made a mistake when adding your phone number, you will have the option to request a new SMS or re-enter your phone number.
Can I refuse this authentication?
No. Identity verification is mandatory. If you choose not to comply, you may no longer be able to sell on our website.
Until your account has been verified, your sales may be blocked and your items may no longer be visible to other Delcampe members. This measure will remain in place until you complete the authentication process.
